International Humanitarian Medicine Program
One unique opportunity to learn more about diseases rarely seen in this country is
to travel abroad. The International Humanitarian Medicine Program allows Emergency
Medicine residents the opportunity to travel to third world countries and provide
medical care to those underserved by modern medicine. The experience however, is mutually
beneficial, by educating and enlightening the physicians.
We have a thriving International Medicine program, with 5-6 trips scheduled per year,
which provides interested residents and fellows abundant opportunities to experience
medicine in the developing world first hand.
We conduct multiple courses related to global issues and international health and tropical infectious diseases:

- Ultrasound in Tropical Infectious Diseases, Lima, Peru (1 Week)
- Asian Clinical Tropical Medicine, Bangkok, Thailand and Seim Reap, Cambodia (12
days)
- Preparing for Medical Leadership Roles in the Developing World, Different country
in Central or South American each year (8 days)
- We also have international experiences for clinical ultrasound training that faculty
teach and residents and fellows are welcome to accompany the ultrasound teaching faculty.
