Harrisburg Family Health Care (HFHC) was founded on a simple but transformative belief: “every person deserves to be seen, valued, and cared for with dignity. “HFHC exists to provide a healing space where individuals and families can access the care and support, they need to thrive regardless of their circumstances.”
Harrisburg Family Health Care (HFHC), a nonprofit community health center, is a free and charitable clinic located in Augusta, GA. Having a long history of a small community store front location, Harrisburg Family Health Care is now providing services in its new clinical office in the recently completed HUB for Community Innovation. The “HUB” is a project that supports and facilitates the strengthening of the historic Harrisburg and Laney-Walker Neighborhoods which surrounds Augusta's downtown Medical District. The HUB’s Project participants are multiple community organizations including the Augusta University, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Piedmont Healthcare, Rise Augusta, Augusta Locally Grown, the Boys and Girls of Greater Augusta and others.
Harrisburg Family Health Care provides free and affordable healthcare to adults who do not have insurance or cannot afford healthcare, where physicians from Augusta University’s Medical College of Georgia provide primary care medical services. HFHC location in the “HUB” facilitates patients’ access to more than healthcare but also connects them to partners providing mental health services, transportation, education, food and housing support and other resources that affect overall health. The HFHC, a previous free clinic in the community, became a part of the “HUB” to fulfill the healthcare component of the mission of this overall community strengthening project.
HFHC as a safety-net healthcare entity, not only provides holistic health care and support services to the Harrisburg and the Laney-Walker communities as a priority, but to the uninsured and underinsured in Augusta's urban core, and other counties in the Central Savannah River Area. HFHC offers services to all people regardless of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, immigration, veteran, or economic status.
Harrisburg Family Health Care (HFHC) has learning opportunities for Medical College Georgia students to participate in the delivery of health care services to communities with health care access challenges surrounding Augusta University’s (AU) health science campus. Students are supervised by faculty and residents from MCG who provide health care and educational services in this CHC. HFHC is a medical educational site for AU’s Medical College of Georgia’s Departments of Family and Community Medicine and Psychiatry and Health Behavior for resident and student education as an FQHC/CHC Educational Affiliate.
