Are you interested in working at the Center for Writing Excellence?

Becoming a writing consultant looks great on any resume, since it demonstrates leadership ability, strong communication and writing skills, and experience teaching others. To become a consultant, students must:

  • Complete the CWE's training regimen, either by taking English 3830: Writing Center Theory and Practice or completing a paid internship. ENGL 3830 is the preferred training method. This course is also designated as an EXL (Experiential Leadership) bridge course that counts toward obtaining an Augusta University Leadership certificate. Students who enroll in the course will begin employment the same semester of enrollment. Students who complete a paid internship will complete weekly assignments, attend weekly training meetings, and will work in the center for pay throughout their internship. Subsequent employment after completing the course or paid internship will be dependent upon successful completion of training and center need.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have received a minimum grade of "B" in English 1101 and 1102 (or their equivalents)
  • Fill out our online application form

If you have questions about the course or job, you can contact the Augusta University Center for Writing Excellence.

Writing Consultant Testimonials

I enjoy working in the writing center because it lets me flex my teaching and communication skills. I also enjoy learning about different people and ideas. The writing center is always abuzz with conversations on various topics, so there is no shortage of new things to learn and to implement within consultations.

Writing Consultant

As a non-native English speaker, I had the privilege to work at the writing center. This opportunity not only helped me to grow as a student and as an individual, but it also helped me develop critical thinking skills that were passed on to the students that accompanied me during the writing sessions. It was the most rewarding experience to be a part of the WC team. I truly believe that the WC is a great resource that provides both writers and consultants with tools for success.

Writing Consultant

The writing center is an invaluable resource on campus. I am able to provide assistance during every stage in the writing process, while also assuaging students' anxieties related to their assignments and the college experience, in general. As a future counselor, this has been rewarding. I also enjoy getting to connect with students of all types and helping them to learn something new, while also often learning something new myself.
