This November, a group of about twelve students and two faculty members attended the
Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society (SERMACS) in Atlanta,
GA. The theme of the event was Building Chemical Bonds and highlighted recent advances in nanotechnology, nucleic acid chemistry, organic
synthesis and much more. Dr. Stephanie Myers presented a talk on the Forensic Science
track at Augusta University. Kyle Gebhard and Jason Ji of Dr. Miao’s research group
presented their work on organic semiconductors. Matt Harrell of Dr. Spencer’s research
group presented his work on stem-loop DNA for potential use in aptamer generation.
Members of the Augusta University Chemistry Club enjoyed the variety of seminars on
various topics in chemistry, attended educational workshops and explored graduate
school options at the graduate school fair.
