Additional resources include the Intramural Grants Program (IGP), which is administered through the Office of the Vice President for Research. Its purpose is to assist Medical College of Georgia faculty members in competing successfully for major research funding from external sponsors.Three programs are available: 1) Pilot Study Research Program (PSRP), 2) Extramural Success Award (ESA) and 3) TUPP Collaborative Proposal Preparation Awards. All applications are evaluated on their likelihood of success for receiving extramural funding, and their contribution to the research priorities of Augusta University. These priorities are: 1) interdisciplinary research specifically research collaborations between existing colleges, institutes/centers and universities; 2) clinical and translational research and 3) support for young investigators. All regular, full-time Augusta University faculty are eligible to apply; faculty with voluntary (“clinical” or “adjunct”) appointments are not eligible. Faculty who have intramural funding fr om a Discovery Institute must demonstrate that there is no scientific or budgetary overlap with the PSRP, ESA or TUPP application. Applicants with start-up funds exceeding $25,000 are not eligible for either program. No individual may have more than one active PSRP award at a time. An applicant who has previously received and completed an IGP award may submit a new proposal on a separate topic, but must document extramural funding or application for extramural funding resulting from the previous IGP award.
