Ed.S. in Educational Leadership/Tier II

The 30-hour EdS program is a performance-based program for educators who hold a Tier I Standard Professional Educational Leadership certificate and are presently in a leadership role. The program offers candidates extensive opportunities to apply knowledge and skills in real educational leadership settings, which will be documented in the E-Portfolio in Anthology. Educators who complete this program may be eligible for Tier II Leadership certification in Georgia following the successful completion of required coursework and state assessments for Tier II.

All required application materials and documents must be received in order for an application to be considered complete and before an admission decision can be made. Early submission of all materials is strongly advised.

Extended Ed.S in Educational Leadership

The Extended Ed.S. in Educational Leadership is a 48-hour, performance-based program designed for educators who hold a Master's degree in non-leadership fields, are currently in leadership roles, and wish to transition seamlessly into the Ed.S/Tier II Leadership program.  During the program's early stages, candidates complete an integrated Tier I curriculum.  The program provides extensive opportunities to apply leadership knowledge and skills in real-world educational  settings. Upon successful completion of the required coursework and state assessments, graduates may be eligible for Tier II Leadership certification in Georgia.  

All required application materials and documents must be received in order for an application to be considered complete and before an admission decision can be made. Early submission of all materials is strongly advised.

Leadership Tier II Certification Only

The 21-hour Tier II Certification-Only program is a performance-based program for educators who hold Tier I Educational Leadership certification and a degree at the Specialist level or above. The program offers candidates extensive opportunities to apply knowledge and skills in real educational leadership settings. Educators who complete this program may be eligible for Tier II Leadership certification in Georgia following the successful completion of required coursework and state assessments for Tier II.

All required application materials and documents must be received in order for an application to be considered complete and before an admission decision can be made. Early submission of all materials is strongly advised.

GPA: Minimum 3.0 GPA at the Master’s level (Masters need not be in education but must be in a related field identified and from an accredited institution) calculated on all graduate work attempted in which letter grades were awarded.

Minimum Degree Requirement: 
Minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited program and an accredited college or university. To be used to satisfy degree requirements, evaluation of foreign educational transcripts must show degree earned that is the U.S. equivalency of degree required by the program.

Minimum Professional Requirements:

  • Georgia Tier I Standard Professional Leadership Certificate
  • Actively in a leadership position and performing leadership roles and responsibilities (exception may be granted under special conditions requested by the Local Unit of Administration (LUA).


Official Transcripts: 
Official transcripts are required from all universities and colleges ever attended. Only in the case of transcripts from international colleges/universities will an official course-by-course transcript evaluation be accepted in lieu of an official transcript. Official transcripts should be sent to Augusta University's Office of Academic Admissions. To remain official, all transcripts must remain in the original, unopened, sealed and stamped/signed envelope from the Registrar's office of the issuing institution. Alternatively, Augusta University will accept official electronic transcripts from the registrar's office at your prior institution. Electronic transcripts should be directed to graduateadmissions@augusta.edu.

Standardized Tests:
The GRE or MAT are not required for admission consideration.

Candidates enrolled in Educational Leadership programs, such as Augusta University’s Ed.S. in Educational Leadership, must complete the Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership Assessment (380) prior to enrollment. If a candidate does not have Tier One Certification in Georgia, evidence of completing this assessment is required.

Proof of Lawful Presence: 
In accordance with Board of Regents Policy 4.1.6, all applicants for admission to Augusta University are required to provide validation of lawful presence in the United States. Acceptance to Augusta University is conditional until lawful presence is verified. All applicants who are U.S. Citizens must submit documentation that verifies his/her lawful presence in the United States at time of application to graduateadmissions@augusta.edu.

Exam Requirements Tier II
Educational Testing Services Performance Assessment for School Leaders (PASL) must be successfully passed in order to add Tier II certification in Educational Leadership. The PASL is an evidence-based (artifacts-based) portfolio assessment that measures a school leader's capability as an instructional leader. Additional information is available.

Important Requirements
Minimum of a Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university. To be used to satisfy degree requirement, evaluation of foreign educational transcripts must show degree(s) earned that are the U.S. equivalency of degree(s) required by the program.

A valid, level 5 or higher Standard Professional, Advanced Professional, or Lead Professional teaching certificate, leadership certificate, or service field certificate. A minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience.

Letters of Recommendation
A notice of recommendation by the school system administrator (superintendent or designee) ensuring that the applicant will be released for a minimum of two hours per day to perform leadership responsibilities, activities, and assignments during the Tier II required clinical practice residencies. NOTE: This requirement is after that applicant has completed Tier I and is beginning Tier II work. The template for this notice is provided by the College of Education for the school system’s authorized signature(s).

GACE Exam Requirements Tier I

Educational Leadership GACE (Test 311): Candidates enrolled in Tier I Educational Leadership programs, must attempt Test 311 prior to program completion and must pass the assessment to obtain an Educational Leadership Tier I Certificate, before proceeding to the Tier-II segment. 

 

Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership Assessment (Test 380):   All candidates admitted (enrolled and taking classes) to any GaPSC-approved Educational Leadership program on or after July 1, 2016, must pass the Georgia Ethics for Educational Leadership assessment prior to becoming enrolled. A candidate who completes this program entry requirement for Tier I, does not have to complete it again for Tier II.

Tier II, or advanced level certification, in the field of educational leadership shall prepare candidates for advanced leadership positions that include P-12 school level principals or the equivalent, superintendents, or other LUA staff who supervise principals.
