The Department of Teaching and Leading provides undergraduate programs of study along with a masters in teaching for students who aspire to be educators in elementary, middle and high schools, graduate studies in school leadership, and a master’s degree in instruction.

The Department of Teaching and leading is committed to the preparation of highly-qualified teachers and school leaders who demonstrate the skills, dispositions, and knowledge to enhance student success in a variety of P-12 environments. We demonstrate the highest standards of teaching, research, and service. We are committed to continued growth and improvement through the use of evidence-based instruction, inclusive pedagogies, authentic field experiences, and collaboration with a variety of professionals and community partners.


Our Programs

Bachelor's Degrees

Elementary Education

The BSEd in Elementary Education is designed to prepare candidates to become able and responsive educators for students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

Middle Grades Education

The BSEd in Middle Grades Education is designed to prepare candidates to become able and responsive educators work with students in grades four through eight.

Secondary Education

Students interested in teaching any subject matter in middle and high school have the option of pursuing a Secondary Teacher Certification alongside their subject-specific major.

Special Education

The BSEd in Special Education is designed to prepare candidates to become able and responsive educators for students with special needs in grades prekindergarten through 12.

P-12 Certification

Students interested in teaching music or foreign language have the option of pursuing a Secondary Teacher Certification alongside their subject-specific major.

 

Master's Degrees

Teaching

The Master of Arts in Teaching is a graduate level initial teacher certification program. This program is designed for candidates that have obtained an undergraduate degree in a field outside of education.

Educational Leadership

The MEd in Leadership offers candidates significant opportunities to apply knowledge and skills in real educational settings.

Instruction

The MEd in Instruction is designed for candidates who hold a valid teaching certificate and seek an advanced graduate degree.

Special Studies

Peace Studies Group

The Augusta University Peace Studies is in partnership with the Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning, and Dialogue. The group is open to all faculty, staff, and students who are interested in peace dialogues and action that promote compassion, human dignity, trust, and friendships.
