Research Interests

My research adopts an ecological health promotion framework that explores how built and social environments contribute to physical activity behavior, obesity, and related health outcomes across geographic and cultural contexts and how disparities might be understood and rectified, through behavioral and environmental interventions including citizen engagement in creating healthier communities. Within this broader field, I have a specific interest in the role of activity promoting community resources such as parks and recreation facilities, and how availability, accessibility, quality, and utilization of these assets can improve physical activity and reduce obesity, especially among youth. As well, I am interested in how innovative technology such as geographic information systems (GIS) and mobile applications can be applied within this public health research agenda.
