The Department of English and World Languages provides students with opportunities
to develop the professional skills and liberal arts education necessary for successful
careers, humane values, and lifelong learning.
Our students learn to communicate effectively in English and several world languages.
They are able to draw on intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary bodies of knowledge
to better understand literature, languages, and world cultures. Through both course
offerings and co-curricular activities, our programs foster the development of reading,
writing, critical thinking, analysis, and research skills. Degrees in English and
World Languages prepare students for diverse, meaningful, and long-lasting careers.

Writers Weekend, a conference for readers and writers, celebrates its 10th anniversary by inviting Elissa Bassist and Chris Belden to take part in the theme, “Laughter as Medicine.”
