Unite in the Fight Against Cancer FAQs

Supporters of Unite in the Fight are encouraged to sign up for this event to become advocates for cancer awareness and to help raise the standard of care for our patients at the Georgia Cancer Center. Everyone is invited to walk together on May 4, 2024 during this cancer awareness walk. Typically the participants or fundraisers that sign up on the same team will walk together to help bring awareness to our community, region, and beyond.

No! This is a community activity and all are welcome. We appreciate donations of any amount but they are not required to participate.

This event is open to the public for all friends, family, and community members to register, fundraise, and participate. We encourage registration to allow the GCC to keep track of our supporters and show our thanks, but it is not required.

After each Unite in the Fight Against Cancer event, we ask our GCC employees to submit grant applications on different projects needed to raise the standard of care for our patients. Once the Unite in the Fight committee has selected the grants, we fund each award with the appropriate percentage of the total raised that year. The more money we raise, the more projects we can fund. Some projects Unite in the Fight has funded in the past are mental health programs, art supplies for our pediatric patients, breast cancer prosthetic devices, and more. Every dollar makes a difference!

Every individual and team are encouraged to set a fundraising goal to reach. We leave this option open to whatever each individual or team can contribute to support this cause. At the event, we will recognize the top teams that raised the most money as well as the top individuals. Team members are encouraged to ask family and friends to support or have their own fundraising events (like bake sales, raffle items, etc.) to donate to their team to support our patient-centric projects at the GCC. Donations that are not specified to a team or individual are still counted in the total amount raised.

The walk is a one-mile route which starts and ends at the M. Bert Storey Research Building at 1410 Laney Walker Blvd. It is a fairly easy walk and supported with police for safety and cheer volunteers for guidance and encouragement. There are plenty of activities for those who may want to support the event but do not wish to walk.

Patients and survivors of any type of cancer are welcome to visit the VIP room for complementary amenities such as refreshments and chair massages. It is important for us to honor them at this event.

If participants cannot make it to the in-person event but would like to show support, they can use the hashtag #UniteintheFight and tag the Georgia Cancer Center on social media.  Following our social media channels and engaging on our posts helps get the word out to a broader audience.
