Take a quick look into Pediatric Diabetes at Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
Type 1 Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas does not work, meaning it doesn’t produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells and fuel our bodies. Those with Type 1 Diabetes have to monitor their blood sugar daily and take insulin to keep their blood sugar level within a healthy range. Hyperglycemia occurs when blood sugar levels are too high, and hypoglycemia occurs when blood sugar levels are too low. Every day, the Children’s Hospital of Georgia cares for about 12 kids with diabetes.
