Our cardiothoracic surgery section at Augusta University Medical Center includes the only board-certified pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon in the region. As an integral part of the Children's Heart Center, we provide state-of-the-art treatment and therapeutic options for patients with all forms of congenital heart defects.

Our center treats complete neonatal correction of complex congenital heart defects, including patients with:

 Atrioventricular septal defect

Coarctation of aorta and aortic arch abnormalities

 Tetralogy of fallot

 Total anomalous pulmonary venous return

 Transposition of the great vessels

 Truncus arteriosus

Staged palliation for heart with univentricular physiology

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome and staged Fontan palliation

The comprehensive pediatric cardiothoracic surgery program includes a specialized pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon as well as cardiologists, neonatologists, intensivists, anesthesiologists and postoperative support groups dedicated to provide the best care for children and adults with complex heart diseases.

We are committed to further understanding and preventing these diseases, focusing our team interests on research on blood conservation surgery, mechanical assist device and cerebral protection in pediatric cardiac
surgery.
