What is clinical and translational research?

Clinical and translational research takes discoveries and observations from the laboratory to the clinic and community. The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) defines translational science as “The field of investigation focused on understanding the scientific and operational principles underlying each step of the translational process”: basic research, preclinical research, clinical research, clinical implementation, and public health.

The addition of a degree in CTS is ideal for clinicians who want to become a clinical research scientist and turn their observations into interventions that will improve individual and public health.
