As the MCG Office for Faculty Success, we serve faculty and the academic/clinical departments in which they reside.

Our mission is to oversee, promote, and build an intentional and integrated approach to supporting faculty needs across career stages, appointment types, and faculty roles, ensuring that all faculty have access and opportunity in their pursuit of excellence and advancement.

Mentoring

Mentoring is a critical piece for the success of faculty in academic medicine. According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, mentoring is associated with job satisfaction, productivity, retention, and increased sense of "fit" with one's institution.

Career Development

We operate on the premise that faculty will have the greatest satisfaction and returns on their careers when they feel ownership over them.

Retention

Diverse, capable, engaged faculty are our most valuable resource in academic medicine.

Consultations

Our consultations services can benefit faculty from career entry through retirement. We assist people in thinking through personal career trajectories as well as those in leadership roles seeking to enrich faculty development within their departments.

Faculty Academic Development Plans

Faculty Academic Development Plans are required for all new faculty and strongly recommended for any faculty who have not yet submitted promotion packets at the Assistant Professor level.

Mentoring Excellence Award

MCG recognizes the importance and value of mentorship in academic medicine.

Our Goals

  • Oversee, promote, and build mentoring resources and capacity

  • Foster meaningful career development for faculty at all stages of their careers

  • Support and expand promotion and retention efforts critical to ensuring a diverse, skilled and engaged MCG faculty

Our History

We were founded in July 2018 under the leadership of Dean David Hess, Dr. Vaughn McCall, Executive Vice Dean and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, and Dr. Lara Stepleman, the inaugural Director for Faculty Success and current Associate Dean for Faculty Success and Inclusive Excellence.
