Master of Public Administration

If you are ready to advance your career in public service, then you are in the right place!

In today's rapidly changing world, collaboration is the key to improving our world. To address today's complex problems, government leaders must work proactively with nonprofit organizations and for-profit businesses. The MPA is the degree of choice for professionals working in government and the nonprofit sector. Why? Because it gives students practical skills in working with others to address the complex problems facing our government and our society.

Working professionals in our program gain valuable management and leadership skills essential to career advancement. Students coming directly from an undergraduate degree learn the basic management, human capital, and budgeting skills employers are looking for in a competitive job market. Regardless of experience, our students come from every discipline, sector, and field to form a rich, diverse academic community dedicated to the ideal expressed by Marian Wright Edelman:

"Service is the rent we pay to be living. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time."

If you want to make the world, or just our community, a better place, the MPA is the degree you have been looking for!

A unique combination of theory and practice that ensures our students leave equipped with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and people skills essential to professional success. We attract a diverse student body from all undergraduate majors and careers. We provide high-quality internship opportunities to give our students the practical experience necessary to compete for today’s jobs. Our graduates work at all levels in an amazing variety of organizations and fields—law enforcement, national parks, local government, economic development organizations, the military, cyber security, emergency management, and nonprofits.

Our program provides working professionals with:

  • thirty-six hours of instruction in critical skills such as team building, budgeting, communication, human capital management, decision-making, and program evaluation
  • an accelerated BA to MPA where undergraduates majoring in political science or criminal justice can graduate with both degrees within five years
  • a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership
  • a concentration in criminal justice
  • small classes scheduled at nights and on the weekends
  • a “doable” degree that can be completed in two to three years
  • a faculty that includes traditional academics, “pracademics” (academics with career experience in government or nonprofit organizations), and working professionals
  • electives in cyber security, homeland security, emergency management, and grant writing to name a few
