Paul M. Wallach, M.D. Vice Dean for Academic Affairs (more information about Dr. Wallach)
Dr. Paul M. Wallach, an internist with over 25 years of academic medicine experience including serving as Vice Dean for Medical Education at large public and private medical schools, is the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. Dr. Wallach is responsible for administrative oversight of the education and student programs for MCG. Dr. Wallach enjoys being actively involved with learners in the classroom and clinical environments. He is married and has three children aged 29, 26, and 21.
His previous appointments include Vice Dean for Medical Education at New York Medical College and Vice Dean for Educational Affairs at the University Of South Florida Health Morsani College Of Medicine in Tampa. Dr. Wallach also served as Vice President and Founding Dean of Touro University College of Medicine in New Jersey.
Dr. Wallach completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry from Rollins College in 1980 with High Distinction and his Doctor of Medicine from the University Of South Florida Morsani College Of Medicine in 1984 where he received the college’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2011. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of South Florida, serving as the Chief Resident in 1987. Dr. Wallach finished a Faculty Fellowship in General Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1992. Major components of this program included: Teaching and Learning, Research and Epidemiology, and Medical Informatics, and Professional Development in Academic Medicine.
Dr. Wallach is a member of the Executive Board of the National Board of Medical Examiners and Chair of the Board’s Advisory Committee for Medical School Programs. He was recently elected to serve another term as a member of the NBME Board of Directors and will serve as treasurer. He also is the Board’s representative to the Composite Committee for the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
He has also served a term as Chair of the USMLE Step 2 Committee. Dr. Wallach previously chaired the Ambulatory Medicine and Anatomy Test Material Development Committees and is a longtime member of the Interdisciplinary Item Review Committee. He also chairs the International Foundations of Medicine, is a site visitor for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. As a general internist, Dr. Wallach has clinical interests in lipid disorders and hypertension and is the author of more than 80 articles and abstracts.
