Dr. Thaddeus Y. Carson was recently appointed Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. He is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia and Internal Medicine Residency Program at Augusta University (Augusta University). He is pursuing the Teaching Scholars Fellowship of Augusta University’s Educational Innovation Institute to gain formal education in academic medical education and hopes to pursue a career in academic internal medicine with a focus in medical education. Dr. Carson practices in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, with a dedicated faculty practice and as attending physician in the Internal Medicine Resident’s Continuity Care Clinic and on the Internal Medicine Ward services. He is the Medical Director of the Augusta University Travel Advisory Clinic, which offers both pre and post- travel consultation and vaccinations for international travelers.
Dr. Carson’s reputation as a compassionate and competent internist has been earned through caring for patients in our region. He is a strong advocate for patient care in an increasingly complicated medical system. He excels in the coordination of care for patients with complex medical conditions.
Dr. Carson is an enthusiastic associate residency program director and inspires trainees
and students toward compassionate, comprehensive care. He chairs the Internal Medicine
Residency’s Clinical Competency Committee, and he is currently invested in projects
to improve the noon conference series, update and improve the residency block curriculum,
and correlate residency performance to the ACGME’s Core Competencies in Internal Medicine.
He is an associate member in the American College of Physicians, a member of the Medical
Association of Georgia, the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine,
the International Society of Travel Medicine, and the Society of General Internal
