We are a division of the Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
Our center was originally established as a Center for Public Service, with a mission to assist local public and non-profit agencies conduct research to improve their effectiveness. CSSR was recently established to expand upon that mission by providing support to faculty and students engaged in social science research more broadly. It has long hosted an immigration studies research program as well.
Many of our projects involve students as active partners, giving them an opportunity to apply social science research methods, learn about community issues, and work towards serving the common good.
For current event updates and information on our work, or if you're interested in initiating a project, please contact us!

Each year we select faculty working on social scientific projects to participate in our Fellowship Programs. View our current and previous fellows.
The Qualitative Research Lab (QRL) offers consultation and support for qualitative social scientific research at Augusta University.
We host regular research talks from faculty inside and outside of AU to learn about each other’s’ research and help AU faculty develop their research programs. If you would like to present your research, please contact us!
Reach out to faculty for research opportunities and collaborations.
We house several physical resources that any faculty across AU are able to utilize when needed in their research.
We maintain two airgapped computers for faculty to analyze sensitive data that cannot be connected to the internet. These computers include all licensed AU data analysis software (SPSS, SAS, NVivo). We also work with faculty to ensure any software they need is downloaded onto these computers if they are actively using them for data analysis. Please contact us if you would like to use this resource for your research!
We house a digital scanner for any AU faculty to use in digitizing texts. Our Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 is state of the art for overhead scanners and is ideal for digitizing any primary materials into digital format. Once digitized these documents can then be analyzed qualitatively or computationally. Please contact us if you would like to use this resource for your research!
