What drew you to the EM program at Augusta/MCG?: I loved the people! I was lucky enough to go to medical school here so I was exposed to the faculty and residents pretty early. My husband and I interviewed all over the country and no where could compare to here. The faculty loves teaching/mentorship and the residents all got along so well with each other, I just wanted to be a part of that community. As a civilian, I also thought training alongside military residents was such a neat opportunity (and it definitely has proven to be as much).
What are some of your favorite things to do in Augusta?: Hanging out with my co-residents! It sounds cheesy, but they’re my absolute favorite people and I couldn’t have gotten through residency without them. If not with them, I’m likely hanging out with my hoard of pets reading something classic lit or sci-fi/fantasy.

What are some of your favorite things to do in Augusta? I really like having places downtown to go out to eat. There are rooftop bars, brunch spots, and some good places downtown for dinner. I haven’t been on the river yet, but a lot of the upper level residents get out on the river to go fishing and kayaking. There is a lot of outdoor stuff to do here as well from mountain biking to Thurmond lake just north of Augusta.

What drew you to the EM program at Augusta/MCG?: I enjoyed the culture and camaraderie of the program when rotating through the department, higher acuity/breadth of pathology and better critical care training compared to the other places I rotated. I think our department has similar clinical experience/patient population to the county hospital program I rotated at while also providing more of the benefits and resources of a larger academic center which I found to be a nice balance.
