Multi-site randomized controlled trial comparing the efficacy of behavioral approaches to improve mood and sleep in adults

The main purpose of the study is to compare two different therapy approaches on the mood and sleep in individuals 55 years or older who are experiencing depressive symptoms. Participants must be taking or willing to take antidepressant medication at an adequate dose prescribed by their doctor. Participants must also be willing to answer questionnaires, participate in therapy sessions, and wear an actigraphy device, a device similar to an Apple Watch or Fitbit. Our goal is evaluate which of two different approaches works best to improve things like trouble sleeping, bad moods, and any suicidal thoughts.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Inclusion Criteria - Age: 55 years or older. - Able to sign consent and willing to follow all study related procedures. - Clinical diagnosis of depression as determined by assessments completed by the research team. - Being treated with an adequate dose of an antidepressant for at least two weeks. Exclusion Criteria - Unable to sign consent - Active high suicide risk as assessed by the research team. -Current treatment at an inpatient unit (participants can enroll post-discharge), or receiving other exclusionary treatments as outlined by the study. -Any exclusionary diagnosis such as psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, or borderline personality disorder. -Active night-shift work
