Detection and Analysis of Sebaceous Oils Using Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization and ElectroSpray Mass Spectrometry

The purpose of the proposed study is to use a diverse population?s sebaceous oil samples, to analyze and compare chemical differences in the exposome from each donor. The exposome is a concept associated with the measure of all exposures throughout a lifetime and their effect on an individual?s health; factors such as: environment, diet, and lifestyle, are the main contributors to an individual?s overall exposure. Once the subjects have submitted a signed informed consent form and completed a questionnaire specifying their dietary, exercise, other day-to-day or weekly habits, and other health related and geographical information, they will be asked to provide a sample of sebaceous oils by rubbing their nose area or ear area with a cotton swab.
