Mrs. Gina Thurman has served Augusta University for 31 years, and began her career in the Division of Enrollment and Student Affairs in 1993. She assumed her roles as Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Advocacy shortly after in 1996. In these positions, she supports and advocates for students, and works to foster a holistic college experience.

She serves as chair for the Campus Assessment Response Evaluation Team, known as the CARE Team. She founded and leads the Open Paws Food Pantry and administers the Student Emergency Fund. She also serves as the designated point of contact for students in foster care and those experiencing homelessness, and works closely with faculty and students regarding medical and hardship withdrawals.

During her time at Augusta University, she has served as a student conduct officer as well as an advisor to student government, international students, and several student organizations. Mrs. Thurman has also supervised numerous offices including Student Counseling and Psychological Services, Testing and Disability Services, Student Life and Engagement and Multicultural Student Engagement. She serves as an advisor to the University System of Georgia’s Student Advisory Council, which includes the SGA Presidents from each of the system’s institutions. She is a strong student advocate and works hard to support students through their educational journey.

Mrs. Thurman earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing from Augusta College and a Master of Education in counselor education from Augusta State University, making her a double-alum of the university’s legacy institutions.

While an undergraduate student, she worked as a Federal Work Study student in the Financial Aid Office and the Office of the President. She and her husband, Robert, have two adult children, Ashley and Zach.
