Admissions Criteria

Admission to the program is competitive and students admitted are likely to have exceeded the following minimum criteria:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited program and an accredited college or university.

Minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Minimum course requirements in mathematical background are three semesters of calculus (differential, integral, and multivariable), one semester of linear algebra or equivalent, and one semester of differential equations.

Test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) taken within 5 years of the date of application.  A minimum score of 290 total (combined Verbal and Quantitative Scores) is required.

Required Application Materials

Official Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

Three references (which include a reference form and a letter of recommendation) are required. Individuals submitting references should be able to speak to your mathematical abilities and your ability to succeed in a graduate program.

An official score report for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). This is a requirement for students who are not native English speakers. . The institution code for submission of TOEFL scores to Augusta University is 5406. Please do not select a department code.

Exemption from the TOEFL requirement is allowed for graduate students who submit proof of earning a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college/university where English is the language of instruction.

In addition, all foreign students must submit a financial responsibility statement which is provided by the Office of Admissions.

Application Deadlines

Applications must be complete by July 1, but early submission of all materials by February 28 is strongly recommended. Students who wish to be considered for assistantship support must submit all application materials no later than February 28. Additionally, students who wish to be considered for an assistantship must fill out this form and return it by email to Dr. Neal Smith, Graduate Director at This form must also be received by February 28.
