Students interested in teaching Social Science in middle and high school have the option of pursuing a Secondary Teacher Certification alongside their History major.
Interested student complete the history curriculum, with similar requirements as the
History BA program, but choosing history content courses that broadly cover US and
global history. After completing the core requirements, usually during the Junior
year, interested students must be admitted into the teacher education program. Admitted
students will take then take the pedagogy and curriculum courses that lead towards
Georgia certification.
The final semester will be devoted to student teaching in a local high-school. Interested students should examine the requirements for admissions to this program, which include specific grade and GPA requirements. Some students may also need to complete the GACE Program Admissions Assessment.
