Dr. Zayas is a Professor of Medicine and Surgery, Chief of Transplant Nephrology and Medical Director of Transplant Nephrology and Transplantation Medicine at Augusta University Medical Center and Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Zayas received his Medicine Doctorate Degree in 1990 from the University of Puerto Rico School in San Juan, Puerto Rico, his Post-Doctoral training (1994-1997) Fellowship in Renal Medicine (Transplant Nephrology and Research) at Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Nephrology in Atlanta GA. He is Board Certified Diplomat in Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Zayas served as Chief Scientific Officer at Piedmont Healthcare 2012-2013, Medical Director, Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program and Transplant Nephrology at Piedmont Transplant Institute in Atlanta from 2005-2013, Chairman of the Department of Transplantation at Piedmont Transplant Institute from 2009 until 2012, as Associate Professor of Medicine Department of Medicine, Mercer School of Medicine. He has contributed to many local-institutional, regional and national committees and boards such as: Patient Care and Education Committee Member of the ASTP (AST), Emory University Hospital Ethics Committee, Advisory Board of Children’s Cross Connection, Baylor University Medical Center Ethics Committee, Immaculate Heart of Mary School Advisory Council, Piedmont Transplant Services Renal Transplant Selection Committee Co-Chair, Piedmont Medical Care Corporation Board, Piedmont Department of Transplantation Executive Council, Piedmont Hospital Ethics Committee, Piedmont Hospital Medical Executive Committee, Baylor Research Transplant Institute Advisory Board and many others. His Scientific and Professional Societies memberships include International Society of Nephrology, Colegio de Médicos y Cirujanos de Puerto Rico, Member of the American Society of Transplant Physicians, Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology, American Society of Transplant Physicians, National Kidney Foundation, ASTP Abstract Reviewer, Best Doctors, Augusta University Ethics Committee, Augusta University Infectious Control Subcommittee, Augusta University Transplant Executive Committee and EQIP Committee co-chair at Augusta University Medical Center.
