Augusta University and Augusta University Medical Center Library Privileges

Full library privileges are extended to all faculty, staff, and students of Augusta University and Augusta University Medical Center with a library barcode. Faculty, staff and students may obtain a library barcode by presenting their current Augusta University or Augusta University Medical Center picture identification badge at the Library Information Center.



The resources of the University System Libraries in Georgia are available to all faculty, staff, and students of the the University System of Georgia via the GIL Express service.

  • Historical Reference-three days
  • Reference Books-does not circulate


Books may be renewed in person, by phone or via GIL prior to them becoming overdue. Overdue materials must be returned to the library, the fine paid, and then they may be checked out again.


Holds may be placed on materials which are checked out by contacting the Library Information Center at 721-3441. Library staff will notify the requestor when the material becomes available and may be picked up at the Library Information Center. Books and journals will be held for three days for pickup.


Fax Service is available at the Library Information Desk for Augusta University faculty, staff and students during library operating hours.

$.35 per item per day

A courtesy reminder will be sent the day an item becomes overdue. Checkout privileges will be suspended upon accrual of unpaid fines. Failure to receive an overdue or fine notice will not be considered cause for canceling a fine.


Lost or misplaced materials should be reported promptly to the library. Fines will not continue to be charged once the loss is reported. Both the library and the borrower should do a thorough search for the book.

The lost material fee will be charged if the book has not been found in two weeks. The fee is the replacement cost of the book (according to current listing) plus a processing fee of $15 ($35 for GIL Express books) plus the overdue fine. Refunds cannot be made for any lost and paid materials which are subsequently located and returned.


Students - The Augusta University Registrar's Office will hold all student records, diplomas, and registration materials until all Library obligations have been cleared. Faculty and staff - If materials have not been returned and fines not paid, an invoice will be sent to the department of the borrower.


Residents of the Augusta-Richmond County area who are 18 years or older may obtain a Community User card at the Information Desk. Community Borrower memberships may be purchased in three month intervals for $10 per interval. The card entitles the user to check out up to a total of five (5) items from the University Libraries. Users must agree to conform to the rules and regulations of the library.

Community User library privileges do not include interlibrary loan, access to campus computer labs or the GALILEO password. Community users may access information resources on the Internet in the Reference Room without a user card. Computer use is limited to one sign in per day for a maximum of two hour session.
