COVID-19 & Fall 2020 for International Students


Below are some reminders and FAQs specifically for F-1 international students regarding the Fall 2020 semester and changes due to COVID-19. For more information, also see the Campus Reopening webpage

REMINDERS

For most students:
Classes begin 10 August 2020
Graduation is 11 December 2020

All active F-1 status students must enroll in a full course of study. 

A full course of study is:

  • Undergraduate students: 12 credit hours
  • Graduate students: 9 credit hours or number of credit hours approved by The Graduate School for your degree program
  • Professional students: number of credit hours approved by your respective college for your degree program.

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

1. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR FALL 2020 ENROLLMENT? 

  • return to campus (see #2 below)
  • enroll in AU courses already available online (see #3 below)

2. IF I plan to come/return to campus for fall 2020 semester from abroad...

Summerville Campus undergraduate program students:
No later than the start of classes on 10 August 2020

 Graduate and Professional students:
No later than the start of classes on 10 August 2020 – unless notified by your program that an earlier arrival date is required

Yes. Anyone traveling from outside the U.S. is required to self-quarantine in their Augusta place of residence (including campus residence halls) for 14 days before coming to class.  

AU's Fall 2020 instructional plan is currently designated as hybrid (a combination of online and in-person course offerings).

On July 14, 2020, the SEVP Broadcast Message 2007-01: COVID-19 and Fall 2020 issued on July 6, 2020 and the Frequently Asked Questions posted on July 7, 2020, were  rescinded.  F-1 students may now take a full online course load and remain in the United States.

 3. if i remain outside of the u.s AND ENROLL IN AU COURSES AVAILABLE ONLINE....

Yes, you may enroll full-time or part-time. Please contact your academic advisor with questions about specific courses.

If you enroll in Augusta University courses full-time, your F program SEVIS record will remain active.

If you enroll in AU courses less than full-time, you must apply for and receive authorization to enroll in less than a full course of study as soon as possible for your F program SEVIS record to remain active. See the IPSO Student Forms webpage.   


4. I AM ON OPT OR STEM OPT...

No. At this time your OPT or OPT STEM employment authorization and reporting requirements remain unchanged.
