If you are feeling anxious and stressed about the COVID-19 outbreak, you are not alone. Many students are experiencing higher than normal stress and anxiety levels right now. These are confusing and stressful times for all of us.
As the coronavirus pandemic affects our society globally, it impacts each of us individually as well – and some more than others. Our daily lives are disrupted in ways we could not have imagined a few months ago. In the midst of all this change, we are all feeling uncertain about the coming weeks, as we work to flatten the curve and slow the spread of this virus.
So how can you maintain positivity and some sense of normalcy during these unsettling times? One way is by focusing on what you can do, instead what you cannot control. As a result, you will be better able to cope and may even be able to help others as well as yourself.
Watching the news all day can increase anxiety levels. Tune in to reliable sources to keep up to date on the facts, but set limits to do so once or twice daily.
Exercise is critical for both mental and physical health. From virtual work outs to the great outdoors- take the opportunity to move! Go for a walk, run or bike ride. Try yoga, Zumba or aerobics. Whatever you choose, stay safe and practice social distancing.
Set a time daily to devote to your academic studies and work. Keep on pace with your coursework and responsibilities for a sense of accomplishment and to avoid getting behind. Be sure to reach out to faculty if you have questions on course material or need help adjusting to the new (online) teaching formats. Our students are a priority and our faculty are here to help and support you.
