Research Project: Change point analysis. Change point analysis is used to identify the number and location
of significant changes in a time series data. This helps us to identify trends in
data, which can be useful. For example, in disease prevention, being prepared with
enough vaccines at certain times of the year, or in public health, allocating enough
supplies to local health departments, etc.
Why did you choose your degree program? I was fascinated by the concept of Statistics from the time I was first introduced
to it in the 8th grade. Since then, I completed both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees
in Statistics. Biostatistics is one of the most sought after research areas in the
world now and its application is immense. The Biostatistics PhD program here at Augusta
University is curated to cover every detail aspect of both theoretical and applicable
knowledge.
What words of advice you have learned from your mentor? Have a vision of your ultimate goal but work step by step in achieving it.
What have you found most beneficial and enjoyable about your program at AU? The atmosphere in the department is ideal for scholars. The help and guidance we get
from the faculty is invaluable. The collaborative environment among students is what
motivates me on a daily basis.
Please share words of advice for someone considering this program at AU? Just go for it. You’ll soon understand what it means to be a Jaguar. Apart from the
scholarly culture of this university there’s a ton of fun stuff to do as well.
Have you been involved in any AU activities? Yes, I have been involved with The Graduate School, Graduate Student Association
for a couple of years now. We meet every month to discuss the needs of the student
with graduate coordinators and the Vice Dean. The work everyone puts in shows how
much the faculty is invested in making the graduate-life of students easier, more
comfortable and just enjoyable in general.
What have been some of your most rewarding moments while in your program? Getting my first publication - “Is there a Difference in CBSE Scores of 4-Year Versus
6-Year Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery Residents?”
What AU resources have you found helpful? AU offers a plethora of resources to students, particularly to its international students. Personally, I have found the rooms that are available in the library for a brainstorming session with friends, most helpful. The student health center
has been a blessing as well.
What is your Favorite AU memory? I feel like every day I get to have a new ‘favorite’ moment at AU. Getting my first
publication and receiving the Outstanding student of the year, Biostatistics Division,
2022, has to be right up there.
What do you do for fun (hobbies etc)? I love playing soccer. GGMU (iykyk). Although terrible at it, I like to strum on my
ukulele and hum along at times.
