After 32 years of service to The Dental College of Georgia and its students, our friend, mentor and colleague, Dr. Carole Hanes, is retiring on June 30.
It is with mixed emotions that we see her depart the dental school. There is tremendous gratitude for what she has meant to each of us, and happiness for her and Phil and the wonderful experiences they will enjoy in a new, more relaxed lifestyle. However, there is also a touch of sadness that even more students will miss Carole’s teaching, mentoring, support and boundless enthusiasm for our college – and especially for them.
In her role as a faculty member in pediatric dentistry and as the Associate Dean for Students, Admissions and Alumni, Carole has touched the lives of well over half the students who have enrolled in the dental school since its founding. She has impacted even more of those who graduated before she arrived through her selfless activity in organized dentistry.
Carole has given freely of her time and energy through the years. Her focus on helping students achieve their career aspirations and her expressed desire to someday see every dental student receive a scholarship is well known.
It is because of that desire that her friends and colleagues are establishing an endowed scholarship at the DCG in her honor.
The Hanes Family Scholarship Endowment will provide much needed financial assistance for our dental students. If Carole has meant something special in your life, I invite you to support this scholarship in honor of someone who has meant so much to so many people.
I hope you share my enthusiasm for creating this endowment so that all of us – students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends – have the opportunity to show our respect for Carole and ensure her legacy at The Dental College of Georgia.Carol A.
