Governance Structure


These committees and teams have been established.

Unit Leader - Deans, VPs, Chiefs of Staff, Senior Directors, or other designated/appointed leaders

Unit Leader’s responsibilities include:

  • Driving Unit-specific content strategy
    (positioning, messaging, tone and voice, etc.).
  • Designating Content Owners, and approving recommended Content Contributors and Content Editors, for the Unit.
  • Collaborating with the Unit’s designated DCM Web and Content Specialists (liaisons).
  • Maintaining the accuracy and quality of Unit content.
  • Enforcing Unit’s adherence to any University-wide and Unit-specific Rules.
  • Escalating issues, challenges and ideas that stretch beyond the Unit Leader’s capacity to the Vice President of Communications and Marketing, who will work with the Unit Leader to determine whether a Special Work Group should be convened.

    Suggested Qualifications
      • Excellent leadership and communication skills
      • Capacity for strategic decision-making
      • Understanding for how Unit fits within and supports the greater University-wide strategic vision and direction
      • Authority to establish and enforce Unit-specific direction and policies
      • Strong sense of empathy both for Unit-specific role players and for University’s Central Web Management and Oversight groups.

Content Owner - Communications specialists, strategic leaders, mid-level managers, key faculty members, etc.

Content Owners’ responsibilities include:

  • Supporting Unit Leader in establishing and executing Unit-specific web and content strategies.
  • Determining, according to the established strategy, what type of content gets published, how frequently it gets published and who publishes it.
  • Recommending (for Unit Leader’s approval) the Content Contributor(s) and Content Editor(s) within their designated sphere of ownership.
  • Creating, approving, posting content.
  • Maintaining the accuracy and quality of content within their spheres of ownership.
  • Enforcing Content Contributors’ and Content Editors’ adherence to any University-wide and Unit-specific rules.
  • Identifying and solving issues within their sphere of ownership, and escalating relevant issues and ideas to the Unit Leader.
  • Operating within the CMS with permissions to create, edit and publish content.

    Preferred Qualifications
      • Fluent in the use of the OU Campus and has an extensive grasp of web-related rules and standards
      • Strong leadership and communication skills
      • Capacity for strategic decision-making
      • Grasp of Unit’s fit and role within the greater University mission and strategic direction; ability to lead collaborative teams and manage long-term projects
      • Knack for translating strategic direction into practical execution
      • Subject matter expertise (web content expertise or topical expertise)

Content Contributor - Subject matter experts for specific topics, types of content, etc.

Content Contributors’ responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for following the direction of their Content Owner(s) and Unit Leader(s)
  • Responsible for creating certain content related to their expertise
  • May post content to the website
  • Operating within the CMS with permissions to create and edit content.

    Preferred Qualifications
      • Subject matter expertise (web content expertise or topical expertise)
      • Strong writing and communication skills
      • Grasp of the rhetorical situation with a deep understanding and appreciation for audience
      • Training in the use of OU Campus and extensive grasp of web-related rules and standards

Content Editor - Subject matter experts and/or individuals with strong editorial skills

Content Editors’ responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and editing content for grammar, content standards, and tone and voice prior to its publication on the site.
  • Approving and posting assigned content to the web.
  • Evaluating and editing published web content within their assigned sphere.
  • Operating within OU Campus with permissions to edit and publish content.

    Preferred Qualifications
      • Strong communications and/or editorial skills
      • Keen attention to detail
      • Training in the use of OU Campus and extensive grasp of web-related rules and standards
