Summer Scholars Program Proposal

The 2020 Summer Scholars application/Proposals will open on December 1.

The program will run from May 18, 2020 to July 17, 2020.

The Center for Undergraduate Research & Scholarship (CURS) will offer a nine-week Summer Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity Program sponsored by the Provost, the Vice President for Instruction and Innovation, and the Senior Vice President for Research.

The goals of the program are:

(1) To increase undergraduate student participation in research, scholarship, and creative activity;

(2) To increase participation of those who are underrepresented in the discipline’s research, scholarship, and creative activity;

(3) To support high impact scholarly activity that will yield significant student achievement and further the research programs at Augusta University; and

(4) To increase participation in undergraduate research and creative scholarship among students and faculty at the Health Sciences campus and in the arts.

Participation and Funding

A variety of projects will be funded, and the number of funded projects will depend on the amount of funding and the expense of the projects proposed. Faculty members selected to participate will receive a stipend. Faculty will receive a stipend  per student with a minimum of one student and a maximum of three. Only ten month faculty are eligible for a stipend. Twelve month faculty do not qualify for the stipend, but are still eligible to submit a proposal and participate in the program. Additional support for necessary travel and/or supplies related to the project may be provided. Participating students must submit an application and agree to the program requirements if and when the faculty’s project is selected. Each student will receive a stipend for 20 hours of research per week. Students who participate are not eligible to work elsewhere on campus during the Summer Scholars Program.

Faculty interested in the program need to complete all sections of the application packet and submit it along with an updated curriculum vitae to no later than 5 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2020.
