Our program provides the trainees with all the necessary tools that prepare them to establish a multidisciplinary academic and community-based Interventional Pulmonology program. Clinical Opportunities

Advanced Airway Diagnostic & Therapeutic Interventions

Our program is considered the regional referral center for patients with malignant and benign airway disorders. The entire scope of endoscopic interventions including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for patients with benign and malignant airway involvement are available.

Advanced Airway Techniques

The advanced bronchoscopic procedures we offer include:

  1. Flexible and rigid bronchoscopy
  2. Robotic bronchoscopy
  3. Navigational bronchoscopy
  4. Fiducial markers placement
  5. Narrow band imaging
  6. Endobronchial ultrasound (radial and linear)
  7. Cryotherapy
  8. Peripheral Cryo-biopsy
  9. Argon plasma coagulation
  10. Photodynamic therapy
  11. Balloon dilation and bronchoplasty
  12. Airway stenting
  13. Percutaneous tracheostomy
  14. Transtracheal oxygen catheter placement
  15. Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction and valve placement

 

Advanced Pleural Disease Program

Patients with pleural effusions are evaluated comprehensively at our program.

Pleural Disease Techniques

We offer a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to patents with pleural diseases that include:

  1. Medical/surgical thoracoscopy
  2. Chest ultrasonography
  3. Ultrasound guided thoracentesis
  4. Tunneled pleural catheter placement and management
  5. Chest tube placement
  6. Chemical pleurodesis

Patient are evaluated and followed in the in-patients and out-patients setting in our dedicated interventional pulmonology clinics.

Advanced COPD/Asthma Program

Through a multi-disciplinary approach, patients are evaluated for potential Bronchial thermoplasty, Trans-tracheal oxygen catheters placement and Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction with valve placement.

Multi-disciplinary Thoracic Oncology and Lung Cancer Screening Program

Our fellow and faculty participate in weekly multi-disciplinary evaluation of patients with lung nodules and/or lung cancer.  The team consists of Thoracic oncologist(s), Thoracic radiologist, Thoracic surgeon(s), Pathologist, and Interventional Pulmonologist(s).

Research Opportunities

Our fellows will be participating in PI-initiated and sponsored research trials involving advanced diagnostics and therapeutic interventions in interventional pulmonology. In addition, they will also participate in the ongoing trials of the Thoracic Oncology Program. The research team is supported by coordinators assigned through the Research Trials Office at the university.
