The Power of Prevention – Lisandra Maisonet, RDH, BS, PHDHP, EFDA
This course will empower participants with the knowledge necessary to implement effective early intervention protocols within their practice settings. According to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research dental caries remains the most prevalent chronic disease in both children and adults, even though it is highly preventable. Dental professionals must take action in changing the oral environment from a diseased to a healthy state.
Utilization of Safety Glasses by Dental Professionals – Kandyce M. A’see, RDH, MS and Suzanne Mathis, RDH, MS
This course will provide an overview of traumatic events and infections that may affect the eyes during patient care. During this presentation, faculty will share the interesting results of their latest research in which a group of dental professionals were surveyed regarding the utilization of safety glasses during dental hygiene procedures. Valuable resources and best practices will be delivered to promote a culture of patient safety in daily practice.

Lisandra Maisonet, RDH received her A.A.S. degree in Dental Hygiene from Montgomery County Community College and her B.S. degree from Pennsylvania College of Technology. She is enrolled in a Master’s Program in Adult Education at Penn State University. Further, she is certified as an expanded functions dental assistant and an adjunct faculty member at Montgomery County Community College. Currently she is an active participant in AAPD’s Healthy Teeth Healthy Children initiative, and the head start coalition in Pennsylvania. She speaks to dental and healthcare professionals on age one dentistry and how to educate on cavity prevention. She also serves as President-Elect for the PDHA as well as president of her local component.
AUGUSTA UNIVERSITY FACULTY
Ana Thompson, RDH, MHE, Course Director
Professor at Augusta University, College of Allied Health Sciences and the Dental College of Georgia. She is Chair and Program Director for the Department of Dental Hygiene. Her teaching areas include dental anatomy, radiology, research design, and clinical dental hygiene.
Kandyce A’see, RDH, MS, Assistant Professor in the College of Allied Health Sciences, Department of Dental Hygiene. She teaches clinical dental hygiene, theory and practice, and practice management and ethics. Ms. A’see also teaches courses in the on-line degree-completion program.
Suzanne Mathis, RDH, MS, Instructor in the College of Allied Health Sciences, Department of Dental Hygiene. She teaches clinical dental hygiene, dental specialty clinics, and microbiology. She also teaches in the on-line degree completion program.
The instructional time of the morning course is 5.0 hours. Attendance for the entire program is approved by the Augusta University for .5 Continuing Education Units (CEU). Registration for the entire morning program is required to receive CEU. Florida License Continuing Education Credit Number is P00018.
REGISTRATION AND FEE
Registration fee, less a $20 administrative fee, is refundable if notice of cancellation is received by April 15, 2016. Attendance is limited. Please register early. Registrations are accepted in the order received.
The Dental Hygiene Class of 1986 will have their 30th year Class Reunion.
