Research Awards for Cancer Clinical Fellows & Residents


Apply NowThis award mechanism is designed to promote cancer research undertaken by clinical fellows and residents of the Cancer Center by providing funding to generate data for presentation at a national meeting.

Amount: The one-year award consists of up to $10,000.

Eligibility and Proposal Criteria:
  • Applicant must be a resident or clinical fellow working within the Cancer Service line, (Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pediatric Hematology Oncology, or Urologic Oncology).
  • Any area of cancer research is permitted.
  • Each trainee must identify a mentor to assist with guiding the project
  • Applications should follow the general NIH format, but with four (4) pages for the proposal and one (1) page for Specific Aims, for a total of 5 pages. Use Arial 11pt font throughout.
  • Biosketches should be included.
  • Budgets are required. (Salary cannot be included in the budget.)
  • The number of awards will depend on the number of meritorious applications received.
Review Criteria: It is expected that there will be limited, if any, preliminary data. Proposals must convincingly present a cancer research project that is both responsive to a national meeting’s platform and feasible within the one-year duration of the award. In addition, proposals will be reviewed to assess the potential that the research project will seed future sustainable funding by external support.
