AHEC Scholars Program

Students enrolled in selected health professions degree programs in Georgia with a duration of two years or longer are invited to apply.  This program requires a two year commitment and a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 to apply.   Students from a rural area, disadvantaged background, or from an under-represented minority are preferred.  The Scholars Program consists of 80 hours of  online and classroom instruction and 40 hours of hands-on clinical training over the two years.  Requirements for this program are in addition to a student’s regular coursework required by their degree program. Most instructional material will be self-paced study, with some small group facilitated discussions and in-person workshops held in your region with local health professions faculty.

Applications for the next cohort of students will be accepted mid-August through November 2020 (your regional AHEC may have more specific dates).  Selected students must commit to completing the two year program.  The next cohort will begin in October-November 2020.  Stipends are available to program participants.
