Long Term Nitric Oxide Bioavailability on Vascular Health in (COPD-LT)

Study Description: Researchers have found a link between COPD and heart disease; however, a link is all they have found. This project is a follow up to a previous study we have done in which we found that a single dose of antioxidants and BH4 both improve vascular health in patients with COPD. The purpose of this study is to see if longer use of antioxidants or BH4 sustain the improvements in vascular health in patients with COPD

Compensation Explanation: Subject Payment Patients with COPD who participate in the BH4 protocol (Protocol 1) will be paid a total of $250 U.S. dollars which equates to $50 U.S dollars for each experimental day completed). Patients with COPD who participate in the antioxidant cocktail protocol (Protocol 2) will be paid a total of $250 U.S. dollars which equates to $50 U.S dollars for each experimental day completed). You may use this card at any store that accepts credit cards or you can use a bank machine to remove cash. However, there may be fees drawn against the balance of the card for cash withdrawals and inactivity. You will receive letters with additional information on how you can use this card and who to call if you have any questions. If you are an Augusta University employee, payment will be included in your payroll check. This payment will be subject to Federal and Georgia state withholding taxes as well as FICA tax and will reflect on the W-2 form at calendar year end. Payment received as compensation for participation in research is considered taxable income to the research participant. If payment to an individual exceeds $600 in any one calendar year, Augusta University is required to report this information to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Research participant payments to a non-employee of AU exceeding $600 during any calendar year will result in a 1099 (Miscellaneous Income) form being issued to the individual and a copy sent to the IRS.
