Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking your potential. - Winston Churchill

LAS is staffed by trained personnel. When an investigator has a particular request for utilizing the departments staff or its equipment, he/she should first contact the LAS Veterinary Staff. The investigator may be assured that every effort will be made to meet his/her requests. However, the veterinary staff requires a reasonable period of time and adequate information in order to coordinate the service being requested.

The following are some of the services that can be provided by LAS:

  • Procurement of laboratory animals from approved vendors.
  • Procurement of specialty feed, bedding, equipment, or supplies.
  • Care and husbandry of animals housed within LAS facilities.
  • Cleaning, washing, and sanitation of cages and equipment.
  • Shipping services provided for export of animals.
  • Instruction in proper methods of animal handling, restraint, and experimental manipulation.
  • Laboratory animal caretaker training.
  • Euthanasia of animals.
  • Carcass disposal (non radioactive only).
  • Laboratory animal health and disease diagnosis in cooperation with the diagnostic and clinical services of the Veterinary Staff.
  • Animal records and information.
