The Augusta University Orchestra is a large ensemble comprised primarily of music majors, as well as a few music minors, non-majors, and community members. In addition to its regular concert season performances, the orchestra also performs in the greater Augusta community, plays the Augusta University graduation ceremony, and is the featured ensemble for the annual concerto competition winner's concert.
The Augusta University Orchestra has performed at the Westobou Festival in 2012 and 2014 and was a featured ensemble at the 2010 Georgia Music Teachers Association annual conference. It has collaborated with many performers including concert pianist and NPR “From the Top” host Christopher O’Riley (2015), the renowned choral conductor Rodney Eichenberger (2008), famed French conductor Bernard Thomas (2012), and jazz great Wycliffe Gordon (2010, 2012, 2015, and 2016). In 2013 the Augusta University Orchestra was featured on the compact disc “The Twelve Bands of GRU”. Past directors include Dr. Martin David Jones (2005-2017) and Dr. Angela Morgan (1995-2005).
