English and Foreign Languages

The Department of English and Foreign Languages is pleased to offer Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and Foreign Languages.

Students can major in English with the following concentrations:

  • Literature. This concentration may lead to careers that require skill in reading, writing, research, and critical thinking.
  • Professional Writing and Rhetoric. This concentration prepares students for writing, editing and publishing careers in business, scientific, medical, governmental and nonprofit organizations; it also prepares students for graduate programs in English and law.
  • Creative Writing. This concentration prepares students to write and publish poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction.
  • Secondary Teacher Certification. This concentration is used for teacher certification in the state of Georgia.

You may also choose to earn a minor in English that focuses on one of these concentrations. An English minor would complement any major at Augusta University.

Foreign Languages

The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages degree in both French and Spanish. Majors in Spanish and French are designed to prepare students for graduate school and teaching, as well as to supplement a variety of careers including civil service, communications, business, social services, and the medical profession. There is also the option to minor in French, German, or Spanish.

Courses in foreign languages and literatures meet the general studies needs of all students and develop communication skills and appreciation for international literatures and cultures.
