Augusta University Health Sciences Summer Academy (HSSA) is designed as a precollegiate introduction to the academic and professional world of health sciences.
The academy provides intense, hands-on activities during the day including building health skills set, simulations and case studies. Students will explore scientific discovery and research. The HSSA curriculum is devoted to specific themes of patient assessment, chronic illness, disease and trauma care.
There are two separate components to HSSA. Students may choose Introductory Week One or Advanced Week Two. Students cannot attend both.
There will be a career night dinner as well as social experiences and other engaging leadership activities offered in the evenings to enhance collaboration, teamwork and communication skills.
Open to 30 rising high school juniors and seniors
Cost: $400 with limited scholarships available at $300
Open to 20 rising high school seniors and college students
Cost: $500 with limited scholarships available at $300
Note: There is no application fee for these programs. All applicants will receive notification of their status (accepted/waitlisted/rejected) no later than April 13, 2018.
Accepted candidates to HSSA (Basic or Advanced) will be expected to complete and provide medical proof of a negative Tuberculosis Skin Test (also known as a PPD skin test.) This test can take up to three business days to be administered and read; so if a student is accepted into the academy, this test should be completed as soon as possible. It can be completed through your health department or your primary care physician.
