The HSSA Academy is designed to introduce high school students to the academic and professional world of health sciences. Students will tour the hospital, labs, and learn from healthcare experts and scientists in the field. There will also be additional hands-on learning experiences for students.
The HSSA Residential Academy will be held June 19th - 24th for 30 rising junior and senior high school students.
The HSSA Day Academy will be held July 10th - 15th for 30 rising sophomore, junior and senior high school students.
As long as students are eligible and accepted, they can indeed attend both camps. They would simply attend the GenCyber Camp the first week and then return the next week to attend the Health Sciences Summer Academy (or vice versa). However, students wishing to attend both academies must fill out an application for each program because the selection criteria is different.
Residential Academy: Must be either a rising junior or senior high school student.
Day Academy: Must be either a rising sophomore, junior or senior high school student.
Tuition for the HSSA Academies:
Students who attend the HSSA Academy shall demonstrate exceptional skill, creativity, and knowledge in math and science. Academic achievement and social maturity are considered in the selection process. There is no specific numerical minimum test score or GPA set by the committee, however, admittance to the program is competitive.
Yes. All rising sophomore, junior and senior high school students are eligible to participate in the HSSA Day Academy. All rising junior and senior high school students are eligible to participate in the HSSA Residential Academy. If a student is accepted to either HSSA Academy, the Academy staff will partner with the child/parent to determine if successful modifications or accommodations are possible within the confines of the program.
The HSSA Academies are prestigious, pre-collegiate summer programs, but they do not provide grades or college course credit. Accepted students are not required to take any exit exams or standardized tests regarding major courses of study. Accepted students who attend the program will receive a certificate of completion during the Graduation Ceremony.
Accepted students are required to attend all six (6) days of the program. Exceptions to this will be rare and limited to emergency situations and must be disclosed prior to the camp start date.
