Statistics 

The Healthy Grandparents Program has provided services to: 

  • 400 families
  • 545 grandparents
  • 863 grandchildren
  • Assisted with 104 adoptions. Adoption is permanent and terminates all rights/responsibilities of the parents. Children have full inheritance rights of their grandparents.
  • Assisted with gaining legal custody of 121 children. Legal Custody gives full legal rights and responsibilities until the child is 18.  It does not terminate parental rights, and parents can petition the court to have custody returned to them.

  • Visits by nurses in the home - assess and monitor chronic health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes & high cholesterol
  • Health and wellness - encourage grandparents to focus on their own health and well-being, not just the children
  • Annual Christmas party
  • Child custody and adoption assistance
  • Scholarships for a variety of after school enrichment activities.
  • Summer respite - scholarships for children to attend summer camp.
  • Information – community resource information and referrals
