The Department of Family Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) sponsors a rural 1+2 residency program in collaboration with Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, GA. The Satilla MCG Rural Residency Program serves as a response to declining numbers of primary care physicians in this rural south Georgia community and region and a desire to train primary care physicians in settings that would facilitate the choice of practice in small and rural communities.
This program accepts two residents for each year. The continuity patient experience for residents occurs in Family Medicine clinics in Waycross, GA and Blackshear, GA. both which have longstanding education affiliations with MCG's undergraduate medical education programs. Residents at the Memorial Satilla Health site regularly participate in teaching and learning experiences via the department's online telecommunications network.
