Core facilities are not only supportive of the various research initiatives, but also serve to link multiple collaborators together. For example, in a multicenter trial (e.g., Ft. Gordon, Walton Rehab), all biochemical samples could be run in the biomarkers and diagnostics core. Multiple new grants would be generated from these new core facilities. The most immediate would be instrumentation grants (S10) for the GMP stem cell and biomaterials core facilities

Stem Cell Core

The Stem Cell Core is dedicated to promoting research involving adult bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells. The Core maintains well characterized mouse bone marrow MSCs isolated from different aged C57BL/6 mice and provides technical consultations for culture and differentiation of these cells. The Core is also facilitated with a state-of-the-art hypoxic cell culture system which provides scientists the capability of conducting their entire experiment (subculture, change media or add treatments) under hypoxic condition.

Rate for cells:

IRRM members: $200 per vial (1 x 106 cells)

Non-IRRM members: $250 per vial (1 x 106 cells)

Off campus investigators: $420 per vial (1 x 106 cells)

Rate for hypoxic cell culture facility:

IRRM members: $80/day (under 24hr) for culturing cells in hypoxic chamber. Add additional $40 per use of hypoxic cabinet.

Non-IRRM members: $100/day (under 24hr) for culturing cells in hypoxic chamber. Add additional $40 per use of hypoxic cabinet.
