Hospitality Administration Certificate


Hospitality is one of the largest industries worldwide and there is a high demand for hospitality managers and employees. Broadly defined, hospitality administration and the Hospitality Administration Certificate will prepare students for management and marketing careers in leisure industries including hotel, restaurant, museum and attractions, sports and tourism.


The Hospitality Administration Certificate can be earned by taking a total of five courses. A “study away” program to Asheville, NC is currently scheduled for Summer 2017 and students will have the opportunity to study the hospitality industry in Asheville while learning the logistics of planning and implementing a large, city-wide festival.

Currently enrolled Marketing students can pursue this certificate within their normal course of study as a Marketing majors. Other enrolled students can pursue the certificate in addition to their course of study for their major. Non-enrolled students who have already earned a Bachelor’s degree, can pursue the certificate as a stand-alone certificate.

To earn the certificate, students must complete the following courses with grades of "C" or better:

Required Courses (12 hours)
  • MKTG 3700 - Principles of Marketing - Fall, Spring, Summer
  • MKTG 3740 - Introduction to Hospitality - Fall
  • MKTG 3750 - Event Planning and Production - Spring
  • MKTG 4720 - Services Marketing - Fall
Elective Courses (3 hours — pick one)
  • BUSA 4960 - Undergraduate Hospitality Internship - Fall, Spring, Summer (requires MKTG 3740 and MKTG 4720)
  • MKTG 4950 - Hospitality Study Abroad/Away - Summer (requires MKTG 3740)
  • MKTG 4760 - Resort and Facility Strategies - Fall (requires MKTG 3740 and MKTG 3750)
