Graduate Assistantship (GA) positions are offered to selected full-time graduate students to assist with general departmental/programmatic needs. All graduate assistants must apply for a GA position. Candidates for GA positions are selected by specific graduate programs/departments and offers are approved and extended by the Dean of The Graduate School. The typical standard hourly rate for graduate assistants is currently $8.00. However, certain departments have received approval to offer a higher rate (ex. Athletics and Student Affairs). As part of the GA package, students also pay a reduced tuition rate of $25 per semester (plus all student fees).

Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) are appointed to perform research activities that are related to the student’s academic program and Augusta University’s research mission. GRAs are paid an annual stipend of $25,500 (for the 2017/18 academic year) and pay a reduced tuition rate of $25 (plus all student fees). As part of the GRA package, students also have a portion to all of their health insurance covered.
There is no application process for Graduate Research Assistantships. GRAs are appointed after admission to their graduate program.
Graduate Research/Teaching Assistantships (GRA/GTA) are assigned responsibility for teaching duties that are related to his/her academic program under the direct supervision of a faculty member who is credentialed in the teaching discipline. GRA/GTAs are also responsible for maintaining duties in the research lab for the progression of their academic degree. GRA/GTAs receive an annual stipend of $25,500 (for the 2017/18 academic year) and pay a reduced tuition rate of $25 (plus all student fees). In addition, students have a portion to all of their health insurance covered.
