The Department of Kinesiology offers undergraduate and graduate level programs in kinesiology.

The Department of Kinesiology is our largest, where we work with students who are interested in a health professions career, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, and more. Our Kinesiology faculty are leading the way in their research and teaching - and with our new concentration in health promotions, we are building more ways for our students to contribute to health of the communities in which they live.

Our faculty and staff are committed to high impact practice within the context of a caring community, and produce innovative research that seeks to address matters related to physical health, intellectual growth and ethical development. Simply put, we are invested in developing good, decent, thoughtful people who can make our world a healthier place in which to live.

Mission Statement

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Science is committed to scholarship, service, and to providing: (1) an educational experience with the overriding objective of preparing undergraduate and graduate students to become effective educators and health and fitness professionals; and (2) a service program for all Augusta University students that encourages a sense of responsibility for one's own health by providing educational opportunities that encourage healthy lifestyle decisions.

The emphasis of the professional preparation program is on integrating scientific knowledge, pedagogical theory, skill acquisition, and application into a comprehensive educational experience. The educational program will be conducted in an atmosphere that is open, concerned, and responsive to the needs of students and the community.

To accomplish this goal the Department collaborates with professional associations, local P-12 schools, and area health service organizations. An additional emphasis of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science is to promote the life-long health of Augusta University students through wellness education. A student educated in wellness has learned skills necessary to perform a variety of self-management alternatives that lead to optimal physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, interpersonal, social, and environmental well-being.

Additionally, the Department strives to ensure that the missions of the College of Education and Augusta University are realized.
