Inserting & Uploading Images

When placed on the website, images should be resized to be as close as possible to the size the images should be viewed.  Large images make the pages difficult to load, and certain browsers will always display the image at full-size. Generally, pictures on the website should be no larger than 600 px wide.

Inserting Images

OU Campus users may easily insert and edit images by clicking the Insert/Edit Image button.  Place the cursor where the picture needs to be inserted.

On the resulting pop-up, click on the File Search Button next to the Source field, and another pop-up box will appear.

  1. File Search Button - This button allows you to search for images within OU Campus.
  2. Source Field - This indicates where the image is located.
  3. Description - A brief description of the image is necessary to comply with accessibility requirements and allow site and text readers to understand and describe the image.
  4. Dimensions - This allows you to change the apparent size of the image - this does not actually change the size of the image.  The dimensions let you decide what size you want the image to appear to be, regardless of the actual size of the image.
NOTE: Internet Explorer completely ignores any rules set in place by the Dimensions field; all images will appear as the actual size in that browser.

Navigate to the appropriate Images folder to view a list of all the image files uploaded to OU Campus.

Uploading Images

To upload an image from your desktop, place the cursor where the picture needs to be inserted. On the resulting pop-up, click on the File Search Button next to the Source field, and another pop-up box will appear. Navigate to the appropriate Images folder, and click "Upload."

Insert Image

An additional pop-up box will appear.  Either drag-and-drop the file from your computer to the pop-up box, or select the green "+Add" button to locate and select the document to upload.

All file names should only include: lowercase letters, dashes (-), and numbers. File names with capital letters or spaces will not upload.

Once the file is uploaded, it will appear in the current folder (which should be the images folder). Items are sorted alphabetically, so you can easily locate the desired file.  Select the image, and click "Insert."  Remember to type a brief description of the image into the Description field.

Click "OK" to insert the image.
