The six-week clerkship provides students with faculty-supervised exposure to the evaluation and management of patients in ambulatory settings of family and community medicine with undifferentiated health needs and chronic conditions.

Students are introduced to the evaluation and management of health problems routinely encountered by primary care and family physicians. The fundamentals of Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) and clinical problem-solving is emphasized in all patient-care encounters. Patient encounters provide opportunities to experience the delivery of health maintenance and comprehensive and longitudinal health care in diverse patient populations spanning the entire life cycle. Clinical experiences and teaching are provided by faculty in the Family and Community Medicine Clerkships’ Learning Communities located in residency programs and community practice settings.
